In the darkest hours of Twilight
I have slept alone.
Afraid, cold, and desperate,
Life itself seemed meaningless.
My pain-filled howls filled the air,
Waiting for someone to respond.
But never did anyone.

I lifted my head to the sky,
Letting out a final piercing cry.
And off in the distance,

Faint though it was,
Another pained cry carried by the winds.
upon uncertain legs I ran toward the sound,
First thinking it my mind tricking me once more.
Until I heard your cry again,
Then I was certain I was not alone in that forest.
I ran, ran as fast as my legs would carry me,
The earth beneath me losing its touch as I flew.
Under the moon's gaze, did I first see your silhouette.
I froze in both wonder and uncertainty seeing you.
Slowly, in the night, you came up to me.
The winds around us slowly dying to a whisper,
I heard words I never heard before.
Mutual wings unfurling in hope,
We wrapped each other in embrace.
And for the first time in ages,
The cold seemed to vanish from my bones.
Within that night, I witnessed
The meaning of true beauty.
And when Helios made his appearance,
When I saw you still there at my side,
Did I weep away my past.
For while I held you against me,
You kept me close against you.
You slowly opened your eyes,
A smile forming on your face,
And you whispered to me.
I could not help myself,
I weeped once again upon you.
Only I did not weep in pain,
Rather weeping in joy.
You ask me why I cry.
I smile to you, whispering softly to you.
